10 Best Stretches To Do Inside Your Swim Spa

If you want to get a full-body workout, look no further than your swim spa. From swimming laps, to rowing to cross-training, the options are endless.

No matter what cardio or strengthening exercises you choose, it’s important to end every workout with some stretches.

Not only does it help release tension from the body, but it also helps to increase your flexibility and overall range of motion. Here are some of the best stretches to add to your swim spa workout routine.

Spa Stretches for the Upper Body

1. Neck Stretch

Sit comfortably in your spa and reach your right arm behind your back, hand resting on your lower back-hip area. Place your left hand on top of your head and gently tilt your head to the left.

Hold for five to 10 seconds and repeat on the other side.

2. Arm Circles

Arm circles are great for loosening tight muscles in your neck, shoulders and arms. Start by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart and extend your arms out to your sides so they’re parallel to the floor.

Draw small circles in the air with your arms, using small controlled motions. Do 20-30 repetitions.

3. Shoulder Rolls

To release tension in your shoulders, roll them forward 10 times and then backward for an additional 10 repetitions.

4. Upper Back Stretch

Stretch your arms out to the side at shoulder level. Bring your palms together and interlace your fingers. Hold for 10-20 seconds for a nice upper back stretch.

5. Torso Twists

Torso twists are a strengthening and stretching exercise all in one. They can help you to whittle your waistline and tone your abdomen.

Keep your belly button pulled back toward your spine, and slowly twist your torso left to right. Do  20-30 reps on each side.

Spa Stretches For the Lower Body

1. Quadriceps Stretch

Hold the side of your spa for balance and then grasp your right foot with your right hand and pull it up toward your butt. Hold for 20 seconds to feel a nice stretch through your thigh. Repeat the move on your left side.

2. Hamstring Stretch

Sit in your spa and stretch one leg out in front of you. Flex your foot toward your shin and then bend forward from the hips until you feel a good stretch through the back of your leg.

3. Calf Stretch

Place one foot in front of the other, keep your front knee slightly bent and lean toward the side of your spa. Be sure to keep both feet planted firmly on the floor and your back knee straight. Hold for 20-30 seconds and then switch sides.

4. Toes on Wall Stretch

Holding on to your spa for balance, place the heel of your foot a few inches from the wall. Place your toes an inch or two above on the wall and then lean forward. This stretches your lower leg and ankle.

5. Knee Hug

Sit comfortably on a spa seat and then bend your knee toward your torso, holding it with both hands. Bring it into your chest and hold. You should feel a nice stretch through your hip. Hold for 20 seconds and repeat on the other side.
